About the event

Speaker- Marion Cofer II

Marion Cofer II is the Manager of the Environmental Sciences and Dosimetry group at the Battelle Savannah River Alliance(BSRA). He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Paine College in 2005 and Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Laboratory Science in 2013 from Georgia Regents University (currently Augusta University). He is a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS (ASCP)CM, through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). He began his career at SRNL in 2015 as a chemist/scientist providing analytical tech support to the processing of nuclear waste for disposition as an effort of DOE’s Environmental Management mission. In 2020, he was manager of the Tritium Facilities Laboratory (TFL) for SRNL’s support to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). In this position, he had operational oversight of the high-resolution/low mass-mass spectrometers that analyze gas components which aid in the tritium products provided to the nation’s weapons inventory. June 2021, he became manager of the Environmental Sciences and Dosimetry group. They dedicate their research toremediation, cleanup and monitoring of radiological contamination in the environment, multi-disciplinary approaches to the Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) of legacy nuclear facilities and radiological dose & risk assessments, internal dosimetry and radioecologyof environmental issues throughout the DOE complex. Marion is a native of Augusta, Georgia, where he currently resides. Marion’s immediate family includes his mother, sister, niece and a pitbull named ‘Boots’. He enjoys working at SRNL, sports, traveling, community service, seafood, shooting pool, fitness training and spending time with family & friends.
