Savannah River Site Women in Nuclear (SRS-WIN) recently held its first speed mentoring event, a distinct event for its VIP members to get one-on-one interaction with senior leadership across SRS.
During the event, 15 mentors from SRS contractors Savannah River Remediation and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) mentored 21 mentees, who rotated throughout the event to ask questions and gain career insight.
To prepare for the event, mentees drafted questions, tailored for their interests. Topics discussed included leadership, career path, work/life balance, achieving goals, and many others.
SRS-WIN President and SRNS L-Area Facility Manager Kela Lofton organized the event with the goal of helping members achieve their career goals.
“SRS-WIN created this event for our VIP members to get one-on-one face time with senior leadership that they normally wouldn’t get at a large networking event,” said Lofton. “This exclusive event is just one of many we want to provide to our members and VIP members. I am excited for the opportunities our organization is creating.”
Mentee Seneca Johnson, Reliability Centered Maintenance Manager, said that her biggest takeaway from the event was the insight gained from leaders of a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
“Hearing different stories of success and perspectives gave me inspiration on where to move within my career,” said Johnson. “I would recommend this event to anyone, no matter the stage of career you’re in. The takeaway was invaluable!”
